Vice President, Political Communications

We are looking for a Vice President, Political Communications, to join our growing team. This position involves developing and leading political communications strategies for an array of clients, including advocacy organizations, nonprofits, and Fortune 500 companies. This position will report to a TMG Partner.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Client Strategy & Advisory

  • Work closely with TMG’s senior team to lead political communications strategy and manage relationships with a select portfolio of clients;
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and thought leader, helping clients achieve political or policy goals; 
  • Evaluate client communications programs regularly to ensure mandates are fulfilled and identify opportunities to deepen engagement and expand scopes of work; and
  • Act as a primary drafter and manager of client materials, including memos, op-eds, statements, deck presentations, messaging documents, and strategic communications plans, and support writing and narrative development across a range of clients and projects.

Media Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and execute political messaging, earned media strategies, press outreach, and digital communications plans across a portfolio of clients;
  • Maintain relationships with producers, bookers, and reporters;
  • Secure and manage coverage in national and local media outlets; and
  • Manage processes related to principal media and public appearances.

Required skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in political communications, including work on federal, state, or local campaigns, in government communications or press secretary roles, at political consulting or public affairs firms, and/or for advocacy organizations;
  • A strong understanding of political communications strategy, earned media, message development, and digital/social media landscape;
  • Exceptional political writing and messaging skills, with demonstrated experience producing communications materials, including press releases, op-eds, talking points, and speeches;
  • Verbal on-the-record or on-camera experience;
  • Strong relationships with political reporters, creators, producers, and editorial boards;
  • Proven experience managing and leading high-performing projects across teams; and
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, managing dynamic and often unpredictable client situations and meeting tight deadlines with limited supervision.

Work Environment

This Vice President, Political Communications, position is based in our Washington, DC office with a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). Occasional travel may be required. Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $160,000 - $195,000 USD commensurate with experience, plus a discretionary, performance-based bonus.
